Two former Marianna Lady Bulldog softball players received more post season awards recently. Whitney Ward, who plays right field for the Pensacola Lady Pirates, is the recipient of the 2008 Jean Williams Award. Ward, the daughter of Allen and Laurie Ward of Marianna has a 4.0 GPA. Ward also was recently named to the Panhandle All Conference Second Team.
Mary Helen Tyler, who plays centerfield for the Tallahassee Lady Eagles, helped led her team to the Gulf District Championship and a berth in the NJCAA National Softball Tournament. In their two wins Sunday over Pensacola Tyler went 5-9 with 6 RBI and 2 runs scored. For her outstanding play in the entire tournament Tyler was selected to the Gulf District All Tournament Team and the FCCAA All Tournament Team. Tyler, the daughter of Jim and Angie Tyler of Marianna, also recently was named to the Panhandle All Conference First Team.
