Marianna Bulldogs Squeak One Out At Walton High 2/5/09

By Sid Riley
65 to 64 as Buzzer Sounds

"Last year when the Dogs played this team on their home court in DeFuniak Springs we were down 21 points in the third quarter…and put together an amazing comeback to win the game," Coach Travis Blanton recalled with a hint of a grin, "And then this year we win this squeaker."
It was one of those games that remains nip-and-tuck all the way through. The Dogs trailed 16-14 at the end of the first quarter, led 34-28 at half, led 47-45 at the third, and won at the buzzer 65-64. During an exciting final quarter R.J. Bowers thrilled the bulldog fans by swishing two three pointers and making 2 free throws, while team mates Tre’ Long scored 3 in the fourth quarter, and Kruize Pinkins made two free throws.
High scorers were R.J. Bowers (16), C.J. Blount (16), Kruize Pinkins (15), and Tre’ Long (12).
Marianna plays Chipley on February 14 in the District Play-offs.
