The Marianna Varsity Cheerleading squad ended their 2007-08 season with great success. The squad attended "The State" Championships in Jacksonville and were the Class 3A winners. Also, they recently attended the Chipola College Cheerleading Extravaganza where they won the Co-ed division, Spirit Award, and first ever Grand Champion Title. This year’s award winning cheerleading squad is coach by Christi Shelfer and led by five outstanding seniors: Josh Johnson, Nicole Barfield, Kaitlyn Burch, Carrie Basford and Holly Holland. Josh and Kaitlyn have recently been hired by the National Cheerleaders Association to become NCA instructors this summer. Even though this great year is coming to an end, preparations are already under way for next year’s squad. The informational parent meeting for the upcoming school year will be held February 21st at Marianna High School’s media center beginning at 5:30 pm. This meeting is for all prospective cheer parents for the Varsity and Junior Varsity level. For further information contact Christi Shelfer at 482-9605 ext 307.
