2008 Norris D. Langston Youth Foundation Education Classic
Local high school hoop fans had a smorgasbord to feast on this past weekend as the Norris D. Langson Youth Foundation hosted the 2008 Education Classic at the Milton H. Johnson Health Center on the campus of Chipola College. A total of 20 high school boys and girls teams from the Florida Panhandle participated in the three day event. The foundation is a non-profit organization that provides a variety of educational services (mentoring, counseling, motivational seminars, travel to post secondary institutions, collegiate and professional culture events and some financial support) to a diverse student population.
The three day event began with a program on Thursday afternoon for all the participating teams. President and CEO of the foundation, David Langston introduced the keynote speaker of the program, Dr. E. Douglas Beach, Secretary of the Florida Department of Elderly Affairs. After the program concluded it was basketball time as the classic featured four games on Thursday, six games on Friday and eight games on Saturday. For a complete wrap up on how the Jackson County teams faired in the three day classic please see page B3 of Sports.
