Lady Pirates Take Win Over Cottondale

The Sneads Lady Pirates volleyball team picked up two more district wins this past week. Last Thursday night they beat district rival Blountstown 3-1. They followed that up on Monday night with a 3-0 win over county rival Cottondale. With those two district wins they improved to 5-0 in the district and 5-1 overall. Against Blountstown the Lady Pirates were led by Kara Alford with 12 kills and Jordan Jackson with 8. Defensively Sneads was led by Alford with 14 digs and Emily Jones with 13.

On Monday night Cottondale played host to Sneads in a district contest and the Lady Pirates jumped out to an early 9-4 lead in game one on a kill by Alyssa Edwards. Alford then added a kill and tap over to give Sneads a 15-5 lead. Cottondale got hot and battled back as Shay Wright and Chelsea Caudill led the charge. The Lady Hornets got to within five points, 22-17, before Sneads finished the game out winning 25-17. Game two again saw Sneads jump out to an early lead but this time Cottondale quickly got back into the game. A kill by Wright tied the game at 7-7 and the game was tied again at 11-11 and then 9-9. With Caudill serving Cottondale took the lead and led as much as five points during the game. Sneads sailed back though with Alford and Jackson doing much of the damage. Becca Aaron then got hot from the service line and Sneads rallied for a 25-21 win. Game three went to Sneads in a big way as Jackson helped them to an 11-3 lead. With Sneads leading 20-6 Edwards went to the service line and served out the match for a 25-6 win.

Cottondale was coming off a lost to Bozeman last Thursday but then had bounced back with a win over Bethlehem on Friday night. The Lady Hornets were led in the win over Bethlehem by Haley Boggs with 20 service points. Kylee Cross followed with 13 service points, 5 of which were aces. Caudill had a fine night as she had 3 kills, 13 assists, 3 digs and 7 service points. Wright patrolled the nets and recorded 6 kills in the win over the Lady Wildcats.
