Chipola College will begin its quest for a National Championship tonight against a team from Kansas that definitely was peaking at the end of the year.
The Saints of Seward County Community College in Liberal, Kansas, have put together an impressive 29-5 record this year. They have won 16 of their last 17 games, including a Kansas championship game win over #9 Cowley College to make the national junior college tournament for the first time in 10 years.
The last time Seward County made it to the NJCAA men's tournament, they finished third.
The Chipola Indians come into the tournament, of course, riding a 32-1 record and ranked #2 in the nation. Their only loss this season was to #6 ranked Okaloosa Walton, a team they defeated in the Florida state championship game to claim back-to-back state championships.
The game is set for 8:30 p.m. at the Hutchinson Sports Arena in Hutchinson, Kansas. The winner will play the winner of the Shelton State Community College vs. Northeastern Oklahoma A&M game in round two of the tournament, while the loser will move into the consolation bracket.
