Bulldogs Rally For Win Over Pirates

MARIANNA – The Sneads Pirates gave Marianna all they wanted and then some for three quarters on Tuesday night. But the Bulldogs started their rally in the 3rd quarter and then pulled away in the 4th quarter for a 67-52 win. Sneads led 12-11 after one quarter of play and then held a 27-22 lead at the half. Alex Perry’s 3 pointer put the Pirates up by 10 early in the 2nd half. Midway through the quarter though Marianna began to rally as Tyler Wilson’s 3 pointer pulled the ‘Dogs to within 4 points. Marianna took their first lead of the game with a minute to play in the 3rd quarter on a 3 pointer from Brandon Gibson. Sneads kept battling though and Allen Campbell’s 3 pointer held the Bulldog lead to 45-43 at the end of the quarter. The 4th quarter saw Marianna led for most of the quarter with Sneads trailing by 4 to 6 points. With two minutes to play Dontavious Walker hit a bucket for Sneads to cut the Bulldog lead back to 56-52. The final two minutes however were all Marianna as they ripped off 11 unanswered points. Marianna improved to 19-3 and were led by C.J. Blount with 19 points. Wilson and T.J. Spencer each chipped in 11. Sneads was led by Campbell with 18 and Jarren Johnson with 12.
In JV action the game pitted two of the better squads in the county. Marianna jumped out to a early 23-13 lead but Sneads battled back in the 2nd quarter. They outscored Marianna 21-13 to trail 36-34 at the half. The 3rd quarter went to the Bulldogs as they pushed their lead to 54-45 by the end of the quarter. Marianna got up by 13 in the 4th quarter before Sneads managed to cut it back to a 8 point game with three minutes to play. Marianna went on to prevailed though with a 74-62 victory. Marianna improved to 16-2 and were led by R.J. Bowers with 18 points. Marcus Leonard and Trey Long each hit 11. Sneads fell to 14-4 on the season and placed four players in double figures. Dalton Bennett led with 12, Terrence Green had 11 and Trevin Hall and Darryl Johnson each added 10.
