Cottondale Takes Two From Malone

COTTONDALE – The Cottondale Lady Hornets avenged one of their only two losses this season on Tuesday night while the Hornets squad won their sixth game in a row. In the girls game the Lady Hornets jumped out ahead of Malone early and never looked back. The Lady Tigers, playing without two of their five starters, fell behind by 10 points at the end of the 1st quarter. By halftime Cottondale’s lead had swelled to 35-13. Kidada Paul’s 3 pointer to end the 3rd quarter made it a 54-24 lead for the Lady Hornets. The final tally was 65-32 in Cottondale’s favor. The Lady Hornets improved to 23-2 on the season and were led by Shaunte Forward with 17 points. Sherisa Forward followed with 16 and Brianna Gray added 13. Malone was led by LeTeisha Sims with 17 points.
In the boy’s game the 1st quarter was tightly contested as the Hornets led by 1 going into the 2nd quarter. Cottondale upped their lead by halftime to 22-17. But Malone rallied in the 3rd quarter by outscoring the Hornets 14-9 to tie the game at 31-31. Cottondale found their stride again in the 4th quarter to outscore Malone 19-13 and post a 50-44 win.
