Lady Tigers On A Roll

The Graceville Lady Tigers recently picked up three more wins to improve to 10-0 on the season. They traveled to Cottondale last Thursday night and came away with 52-29 win over their rival Lady Hornets. The Lady Tigers placed three players in double figures as they were lead in scoring by Wynnterra Pittman with 16 points. Jessica McClendon followed with 11 points and Mychea Williams added 10.

Graceville jumped out to an early 5-0 lead but Cottondale battled back to take the lead. Kieysha Paul’s basket with just under three minutes left in the first quarter gave the Lady Hornets a brief 6-5 lead. Graceville fired right back to reclaim the lead on a 3 pointer by Williams. Once the Lady Tigers got the lead back they never relinquished it. Graceville led 10-6 going into the second quarter and that’s when Pittman heated up under the basket. Pittman helped the Lady Tigers take an 18-8 lead midway through the second quarter and then hold a 26-14 halftime lead.

The second half saw Graceville expand their lead to 16 points on another 3 pointer from Williams. They pushed that lead to 22 points by the end of the third quarter. The Lady Tigers emptied the bench in the fourth quarter but still managed to hold their own for the remainder of the game and finish with a 23 point victory. Cottondale was led in the game by Jakia Grimsley with 15 points and Ward with 12 points.

Graceville followed that win up by hosting Enterprise on Friday and posted a 66-61 come from behind win over the visitors from Alabama. Williams and Pittman led Graceville, both with 18 points. McClendon followed with 12 points. The Lady Tigers led by 3 after the first quarter but trailed by 1 at the half. They got down by as many as six points before rallying for the win.

On Monday night they hit the road again as they headed to Bonifay to take on Holmes County. Williams led the Lady Tigers with 14 points as they claimed a 71-55 win over the Lady Blue Devils. Tiara Sorey was also in double figures with 13 points and Pittman added 8. Graceville played host to Malone on Tuesday night and then will host South Walton on Thursday. Results of Tuesday night’s game against Malone was not available at press time.
