On the same day that the Chipola Indians baseball team departed to Colorado to defend their National Championship, Lance Bailey signed on the dotted line to the Indian’s nationally renowned baseball program. Bailey is a senior at Marianna High School and is eager to join up with the Indians. "I am excited and am looking forward to being a part of such a fine program. I’ve got several friends already on the team and have a good relationship with Coach Johnson," said Bailey after his signing.
Bailey has been a member of the Bulldog’s baseball program for three years after moving here in the 10th grade from Liberty County. Bulldog Baseball Head Coach Andy Shelton said Bailey is very deserving of the scholarship. "I’m happy to see Lance move on to a program like Chipola’s. As a coach I’ve been fortunate to have a kid like Lance play for me. I certainly wish him the best of luck," said Shelton. During the past season Bailey helped lead the Bulldogs to a 19-8 record and district championship. He batted .330 on the year with 11 doubles, 11 stolen bases, 18 RBI and 19 runs scored.
Proving that he is just as dedicated in the classroom as on the ball field, Bailey was selected as the Salutatorian for Marianna High School this year. Bailey is the son of Jody and Tresha Bailey. He is the grandson of Howard and Jill Davis and the late J.L Bailey and the late Joyce O’Bryan.
