On Monday evening the Dixie Youth squad from Youngstown tried to invade Optimist Park in Marianna. They went home after being defeated by a capable Barnes Tire team, 9-6. The winning pitcher was Ryan Riley, who pitched the entire game.
In the top of the first inning Youngstown drew first blood by scoring one run. In the bottom of the first, Barnes Tire responded by scoring two. Then in the top of the second, Youngstown again tried to establish dominance by scoring three runs after a series of fielding errors interlaced with one booming triple. Marianna was scoreless in their half of the second and it began to look like Youngstown was in control.
In the third Youngstown added two more runs while Barnes Tire only added one, making the score 6-3 after three with Youngstown ahead. In the bottom of the forth Barnes Tire rallied with several good hits, including a triple by Hughes, which resulted in a four run rally. In the fifth inning Marianna added two more runs to go ahead 9-6.
Youngstown tried to rally in their half of the seventh by loading the bases from a walk and a couple of errors, but Ryan Riley found the groove and struck out the last two threatening batters for Youngstown to seal the victory for Barnes Tire.
