COTTONDALE – It was a typical Jackson County battle last Friday night at "The Hive" but the Cottondale Hornets came out on top with a 56-49 district win over the visiting Sneads Pirates. The Pirates managed to take a 29-25 halftime lead and then pushed that lead to as many as 7 points in the third quarter. Cottondale rallied to tie the game late in the third quarter but Sneads fired right back and took a five point lead going into the final quarter. Cottondale quickly tied the game early in the fourth quarter and took the lead. Sneads re-claimed the lead momentarily but the Hornets grabbed it right back and never relinquished the lead for the remainder of the game.
Cottondale improved to 11-8 overall and 4-2 in district play and were led by Terry Benbow with 11 points and Jacob Herring with 10. Sneads fell to 11-6 overall and 5-2 in district play. They were led by John Locke with 10 points.
