The Sneads High School varsity cheerleaders recently received an Outstanding Achievement Award from Universal Cheerleaders Association and Varsity Brand Fashions as part of the 2008 American School Spirit Awards program. A national awards recognition program, the American School Spirit Awards are given each year to recognize those squads who show exemplary character, spirit raising ideas, community service projects and academic success. The SHS varsity cheerleaders were nominated by their coach, Rhianna Dowling and were also recommended for the award by SHS Principal Laurence Pender, SHS athletic director Zane Walden, and Jackson County School Board member Charlotte Gardner. These nine girls have been extremely busy this school year improving the environment at all athletic events, promoting community service activities, and much more. Members of the squad include Michelle Schouest (captain), Maya Capehart (co-captain), Ashleigh Lollie, Courtney Wall, Meredith Plash, Angelica Rodriguez, Emily Cain, Haley Bennett, and Elizabeth Thomas.
