The Sneads Pirates kicked off the New Year with back to back wins this past Friday and Saturday night. On Friday night they traveled to Vernon and swatted the Yellow Jackets 60-31. They jumped out to an early 16-4 lead in the first quarter and then led 34-14 at the half. From there the Pirates sailed on to a 29 point victory. Justin Neel led the way with 19 points while Allen Patterson followed with 15.
On Saturday night the Pirates hosted their arch rivals, the West Gadsden Panthers, and came away with an 80-71 victory. Sneads led 18-11 at the end of the first quarter but then saw the Panthers catch fire in the second quarter. West Gadsden roared back to outscore Sneads 24-14 in the second quarter and held a 35-32 lead at the half. The Pirates turned the tables though in the third quarter, outscoring the Panthers 21-12 and took a 53- 47 lead into the final quarter. Sneads held off the Panthers in that final quarter to post the 9 point win. Neel had the hot hand again, racking up 32 points on the night. Patterson and John Locke followed with 15 points each.
Sneads improved to 9-4 on the season and 3-0 in district play. They will be back in district action Thursday night as they play at Blountstown.
