Dayspring Christian Academy Represented on the Soccer Field

10/9/08

After a few years of Dayspring Christian Academy not having a soccer team to call their own, the school is back in business on the MERE’s soccer field. Two teams, both on the Midget league, are representing Dayspring. Seasoned coach Ruthy Hall is coaching the "Eagles" team. David Howard, who coached on the midget league last year, is coaching the "Dayspring" team. Each team has both experienced players and rookies. Last week proved to be a busy week for both teams on the field.
Monday evening the Eagles faced the Crew. The second quarter brought points to the scoreboard with Chaseton Owens and Ethan Sapp of the Eagles each scoring a goal for their team. During the second half of the game, Joey Myhill, of the Crew, acquired their first point followed by his teammate, Max Martinez scoring three more points putting their team in the lead. Lance Peterson of the Eagles kicked in the final goal bringing his team up to three points. It was a close game with lots of aggressive defense on both teams, but the Crew squeaked by the Eagles 4-3.
The "Dayspring" team opened up their week Tuesday night with a game against the Bulldogs. During the first quarter Dayspring’s Ryan Redfern and Lauren Canada each scored a point for their team. The second and third quarters went scoreless, but in the last quarter Lauren Canada scored another goal for Dayspring. Late in the fourth quarter Brennan Price, of Dayspring kicked in the fourth and final goal of the game for Dayspring, moving the score to 4-0 Dayspring’s favor.
On Thursday, the Eagles went up against the Giants. The game remained scoreless until early on in the second quarter, when Lance Peterson scored a goal for the Eagles. The second half showed Zane Isler and Carter Cass, both of the Giants, making a goal. The game ended without the Eagles kicking any other goals in and a final score of 1-2 in favor of the Giants. Also Thursday evening, Dayspring took on the Tornados. Dayspring’s Ryan Redfern scored the only two goals of the game assisted by Lauren Canada. Lots of awesome goal defending in this game kept the score at a low 2-0 with Dayspring winning.
