The Chipola Indians Men’s Basketball team, with a record of 15-1, has now got the big bulls eye on their backs as they were tabbed as the #1 junior college team in the nation in the most recently released polls. Chipola has been on a hot streak as of late as they have now won 14 games in a row. The Indians traveled to Winter Haven earlier this week to take part in the Polk Christmas Tournament. On Monday night they cruised past IMG with a 100-58 victory. Casey Mitchell led the way with 22 points while Justin Brownlee followed with 20. Torye Pelham also chipped in 12 points.
On Tuesday night the Indians posted a 85-74 win over Polk Community College. Mitchell again led the way with 26 points. Gary Flowers followed with a solid night as he pumped in 21 points, 19 of which came in the second half. Flowers also grabbed 11 rebounds and dished out 5 assist. Josh Sain came off the bench to spark the Indians with 10 points and Malcolm Armstead had a solid night with his floor game, pumping in 10 points.
Chipola will take a short break for the holidays and then be back in action on Tuesday December 30th in Pensacola against Bevill State. They’ll remain in Pensacola for a Wednesday matchup with Wallace State. The Indians, winners of five straight Panhandle Conference titles, will open conference play on January 3rd at home against Tallahassee.
