Florida FFA is pleased to announce the results of the 2010 State Agricultural Mechanics Career Development Event (CDE). The Agricultural Mechanics event was held Saturday, April 24, 2010 in Polk County. Nine (9) teams from throughout Florida gathered to compete for the state championship. Malone FFA finished 2nd in the state in this competition. The purpose of the Agricultural Mechanics Career Development Event (CDE) is to stimulate student interest in the five areas of the agricultural mechanics industry: machinery and equipment systems, industry and marketing systems, energy systems, structural systems, and environmental & natural resource systems.
Florida FFA is very appreciative of the support of our event coordinators David Byrd and Hal Moon. Malone FFA would like to thank Spanish Trail Lumber Company, Corey Trawick, and Lambe’s Welding for the donation of money and/or time to help the Ag Mechanics Team compete. The contest Saturday consisted of a 40 minute test, a rotation through 10 group tasks, and five individual tasks. Before lunch the team had taken their test and rotated through ten group activities including: inventorying PVC parts, surveying, calibrating a sprayer, constructing drip irrigation, etc. The afternoon individual activities included: electrical circuits, welding, parts manuals, setting a torque wrench, chemicals and their disposal, and much more.
Malone’s Team members include: Jeffrey Peeler, Sam Robison, Rett Daniels, and Cody Ferguson. These same young men competed last year in the state competition and came in 9th. What a way for four senior friends to end their high school FFA career than to become the 2010 Florida FFA State Ag Mechanics Reserve Champions!!
A special congratulation goes to Jeffrey Peeler. Jeffrey was High Individual in this contest. He will go on stage at State FFA Convention in June to receive a trophy for his accomplishment and be recognized as a member of the 2nd place team in the state.
