This past Friday night saw the Sneads Lady Pirates softball squad avenged a 10 inning 1-0 loss to South Walton in the District Championship game from a week earlier. After beating Northview 3-2 in the Class 2A Regional Quarter Finals, Sneads got a rematch with the Lady Seahawks for the Regional Semi-Finals. The game, played at South Walton, went the way of Sneads by a score of 3-1. With that win Sneads advanced to the Regional Finals and were scheduled to travel to Lafayette on Tuesday night. That game was rescheduled to Wednesday night due to heavy rains on Monday and Tuesday. The winner of Wednesday night’s game, which were not available at press time, advances to the FHSAA Final Four in Clermont May 12th & 13th. Lafayette advanced to the Regional Finals by beating Franklin County 11-1 and North Florida Christian 6-5.
Sneads and South Walton had played three previous contest this season, with all three being very close games that featured the outstanding pitching of Karissa Childs from Sneads and South Walton’s Shelby Watson. Both teams took their home games during the season in low scoring affairs. The District Championship was another nail biter and Sneads was chomping at the bit to get a rematch with the Lady Seahawks. In that rematch Sneads finally got to Watson, scoring all three runs in the third inning. Childs helped her own cause with a two RBI single to score Jonie Bonine and Kayla Kelly. A throwing error on the play allowed Childs to come all the way around the bases and score, putting Sneads up 3-0. Childs stymied South Walton most of the game, allowing just one run in the fifth inning, and got some fine defensive play from her teammates to seal the win. With the win Sneads improved to 22-7 on the season.
