Bulldogs Come Up One Point Short

By Clint Cox
The Marianna Bulldogs basketball team gave a valiant effort last Wednesday in the Class 3A State Semi-Final in Lakeland against Jones High School but came up short in a 42-41 loss. The Bulldog’s Quan Boykins had one last long distance 3 point shot as time expired but it bounced off the rim, bringing Marianna’s season to a heartbreaking conclusion.
Marianna trailed 12-9 at the end of the first period and then 20-16 at the half. Jones took a 32-25 lead going into the final quarter but the Bulldogs continued to battle. With a minute to play the Bulldogs had claimed a 39-37 lead. But with four seconds to play Jones hit a free throw to break a 41-41 tie, taking a one point lead and the victory. Marianna was led by Chris Blount with 14 and Kruize Pinkins with 13. Marianna finished the season with a record of 21 wins and 8 losses.
