Bulldogs Return to Lakeland for Final Four

By Clint Cox
The last time the Marianna High School Bulldogs boy’s basketball team made back to back trips to the FHSAA Final Four in Lakeland was during the 1976-77 and 1977-78 seasons. But with a 53-39 win over Jacksonville Ribault this past Saturday night the Bulldogs will make a return trip to Lakeland after making a similar trip last year. Marianna was scheduled to take on Jones High School Wednesday night at 7:30 pm in the Class 3A Semi-Finals. Results of that contest were not available at press time. If the Bulldogs beat Jones they would advance to the State Championship game to be played on Friday at 2:30 pm CST.
After a slow start in Saturday night’s game, the Bulldogs began to pull away from Ribault. Marianna led 23-18 at the half and put even more distance between themselves and Ribault with a run early in the third quarter. Kruize Pinkins led the Bulldogs with 16 points while Quan Boykin followed with 12. C.J. Blount also added 11 points. With the win Marianna enters the final four with a record of 21-7.
