Chipola Williams Named WBCA All American for Second Year

SALINA, KS - Chipola College sophomore Latoya Williams has been named to the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) State Farm 2009 Junior College/Community College (JC/CC) All-America Basketball Team for the second consecutive year.
Selection committees in each of the nine WBCA geographical regions select the top women’s basketball players in the nation to be honored.
According to Chipola coach David Lane, Williams is the first women’s basketball athlete from Chipola to win the All-American Award for two consecutive years. Williams was named to the 2008 All-America Basketball Team as a freshman. Lane says the award is even more significant because it includes hundreds of players from all three divisions of community college basketball.
Williams led the Lady Indians in scoring this season with an average of 14 points per game. She also led the Panhandle Conference in rebounds with an average of 10 rebounds per game.
Williams was named First Team All-Conference, First Team All-State/All-Region, the FCCAA State Tournament MVP, and the FCCAA 2009 Player of the Year.
Coach Lane, said, "Latoya is a dynamic player who can do a lot of different things on the court. This award is important because the recognition comes from other coaches.
