Lady Indians Begin State Tournament Play

By Clint Cox

The Chipola Lady Indians will start play in the FCCAA State Softball Tournament in Auburndale on Friday April 30th. They will open up the tournament with a 1 pm matchup against South Florida. The Lady Indians captured the 2010 Panhandle Conference Championship in fine fashion, posting a 14-2 conference record and an overall record of 42-11. Chipola enters the tournament ranked #3 in both the state and national community college polls. Looming ahead is a possible matchup with the Lady Sharks of Miami Dade who are currently ranked #1 in the state and nation or Santa Fe, which is ranked #2 in the state and #7 in the nation. The FCCAA State Softball tournament is divided into two divisions, the Atlantic and Gulf Divisions. Chipola will play in the Gulf Division while Miami Dade and Santa Fe will battle each other in the Atlantic Division. The winner of each division will then square off on Sunday for the State Championship. In addition, both division winners earn a berth in the NJCAA National Softball Tournament. All of the Lady Indians softball action can be heard live on the radio at 100.9FM WJAQ. The entire softball tournament will be broadcast live as well on the internet at psblive.com.
