Lady Indians Pick Up Two More Wins

By Clint Cox
The Chipola Lady Indians softball squad remains in first place of the Panhandle Conference after posting wins over Northwest Florida State College on Tuesday. The two games were a total contrast as the Lady Indians won big in game one by a score of 9-0. Game two went to extra innings with Chipola taking a 4-3 win in nine innings.
In the first contest Chipola jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. They plated a run in their first at bat and three more in the second inning to lead 4-0. The Lady Indians scored in every at bat but one as they pounded out 13 hits and committed no errors. Emma Stevenson took the win as she went the distance and allowed no runs on just two hits. Nikki Roddy led the way offensively going 3-4 with four RBI and a home run. Trish Bliss also added a home run and Michelle Hewett was 3-4 with two runs scored. Kellie Todd was 2-3 with a RBI and Hannah Lovestrand was 2-3 with two RBI.
The night capper was a totally different game as it was a pitcher’s dual for eight innings. Neither team could muster any runs so going into the ninth inning it was tied 0-0. Chipola erupted for four runs in the top of the ninth and then held the Lady Raiders to three runs in the bottom of the ninth to hang on for the win. Brittany Black got the win and Stevenson came on late to get a save. Hewett was 2-5 with two RBI, Andrea Sullivan was 1-4 with a RBI and Dana Cauthen was 1-4 with a RBI. Black and Trish Bliss were also 2-4 on the contest.
With these wins Chipola improved to 7-1 in conference play and 35-10 overall. They were back on the road on Wednesday with a double header in Panama City against Gulf Coast. Results of those contest were not available at press time. They will be hosting Pensacola this coming Wednesday for two games beginning at 4 pm.
