County Claims Five Regional Track Championships

The recent FHSAA Region One Track Meet in Jacksonville saw Jackson County track athletes capture five Regional Championships. All total 24 athletes from the county finished in the top four in their events and will now advance to the FHSAA Track & Field Championships in Winter Park on State Track this Friday and Saturday. For a complete listing of the 24 athletes advancing to the State Championships please see page three of sports. On the girl’s side of the street Graceville’s Jessica McClendon took first place in the shot put with a throw of 36-09.25. On the boy’s side Michael Cassidy of Sneads took first place in both the Shot Put and Discus Throw. He had a throw of 49.10.50 in the Shot Put and 149.00 in the discus throw. Graceville’s Kevin Potts continued to dominate the 400 meter dash, placing first with a run of 50.20. Potts is unbeaten in Class 1A this year in the 400 meter dash. The Graceville Tigers 4x100 meter relay team beat out the Sneads Pirates relay team to take first place with a run of 42.98. Graceville’s team consisted of Potts, Chris Works, Jamal Miller and Mykel Dates.
