Long Becomes A Wildcat

After four years of being a purple and gold Bulldog, Marianna’s Tre Long will now become a green and gold Wildcat. Long signed a letter of intent to play basketball and attend college at Bishop State Community College in Mobile, Alabama. The Bulldog basketball program has had much success over the last few years and according to Head Coach Travis Blanton, Long is one of the reasons. “Tre has had a great four years here at Marianna. He is one of the individuals that makes everyone around him, especially the younger guys, better off for being around him. It’s been an honor for me to have coached such a fine young man like Tre,” Blanton told the crowd of well wishers.
While Long has been in the Marianna basketball program the teams have recorded 20 plus wins each season and made it to the FHSAA Sweet 16 twice and the Final Four twice. During the past season Long did a little bit of everything for the Bulldogs, averaged 14 points per ball game, along with 6 rebounds, 3 assist and 3 steals. In a testament to how the other players looked up to Long his teammates elected him as team captain in both his junior and senior seasons.
Long addressed the crowd of well wishers that came to watch him sign on the dotted line. “I want to thank God, my family, friends, teachers and coaches for all they’ve done for me. Coach Blanton told me four years ago that if I wanted this I could get it. I’ve worked hard and that hard work has paid off,” said Long.
Long, who also played football for the Bulldogs, is the son of Charlene and Patrick Long.
