May 15 = Steven Cullifer Memorial Poker Run for Kids

On May 15, 2010 there will be a lot of Motorcycles, Convertibles, Hot Rods and Antique cars on the streets of Jackson and Calhoun Counties for the 4th Annual Poker Run Against Childhood Diseases. This year’s poker run, sponsored by the Optimist Club of Jackson County, will benefit 6 year old Elizabeth Cantrell. This year Elizabeth was diagnosed with Idiopathic
Thrombocytopenic Purpura or ITP. ITP is a type of disease that results in a low platelet count and can damage the cell that makes new platelets and decreases the number of platelets that are produced.
If anyone would like to donate to this worthy cause please contact a member of the Optimist Club of Jackson County or mail a check to OJC at P O Box 6294 Marianna, Fl. 32447 and specify that it is for Elizabeth Cantrell. This is a worthy cause and all funds received will go toward the medical bills for Elizabeth as the family did not have insurance at the time of her diagnoses.
Elizabeth is 6 years old and is the daughter of Kenny & Michelle Cantrell of Malone, Fl. She is in kindergarten at Malone Elementary School and is involved with Friendship Baptist Church where she attends the Awana program and sings in the children’s choir.
If you would like to participate in this year’s benefit be at the Jackson County Sheriff Dept at 8:00 AM on May 15 to register. The first wave of riders will leave the JCSO at 9:00 AM. A planned ride will be over 100 miles long and will end up at the Cornerstone Restaurant on Hwy 71 South. The cost for a vehicle and one rider is $20.00. Each rider can also donate $5.00 for each extra hand, up to 5 hands. Each vehicle can have one extra rider and they can donate $5.00 each for up to 5 extra hands as well. There will also be a 50/50 drawing.
Like last year this year’s ride will be a little different as we are inviting Muscle Cars, Hot Rods, Convertibles, Antique Cars and Motorcycles to participate. So come help us help Elizabeth and her family with medical bills.
