The Chipola Indians baseball squad and Lady Indians softball squad will begin the 2009 Panhandle Conference season this week. The Indians open up on the road as they travel to Pensacola on Friday afternoon. They return to Marianna for their home opener on Saturday at 1 pm against Tallahasee. Chipola is currently 15-9-1 on the season after throttling Hibbing CC 22-1 on Tuesday. The Indians are lead offensively going into conference play by Mark Ellis, batting .429 with 28 RBI. Three Indians led the team with five home runs each including Jake Rogers (.419 & 30 RBI), Joey Rapp (.371 & 23 RBI) and Marc Burgeois (.360 & 17 RBI).
The Chipola Lady Indians begin their conference season this coming week with a pair of home conference games. On Tuesday March 17th they will host Northwest Florida in a double header at 1 / 3 pm and then on Thursday they will host Gulf Coast for a double header at 1 / 3 pm as well. The Lady Indians dropped two games on Tuesday to Heartland CC, which dropped their record to 19-9. Before beginning conference play on Tuesday the Lady Indians will have home games against Middle Georgia on Saturday and El Paso CC on Monday.
The Lady Indians are led in pitching by Rayna McClinton who is 7-1 with an ERA of 0.81. Rebekah Lewis follows at 5-2 with an ERA of 1.60 and Brook Muth is 4-4 with an ERA of 3.75. Offensively Chipola is led by Meredith Heath who is batting .487 with 12 RBI. Kara Gordan is swinging the bat well, hitting .418 with 30 RBI and 8 home runs. Michelle Hewitt is batting .375 and Jasmine Angello is hitting .371.
