After starting conference play with a 1-2 record, the Chipola Indians baseball squad has reeled off three straight conference wins to improve to 4-2 in the Panhandle Conference. The Indians started their winning streak last Friday when they traveled to Panama City and posted a 12-3 win over Gulf Coast. Andy Fermin was the man of the day as he went 3-4 with a home run and 8 RBI. Patrick Corbin was the winning pitcher, going seven innings and giving up 3 runs on 6 hits and striking out nine Commodores.
On Saturday the Indians played host to Pensacola and fell behind 1-0. They took a 2-1 lead in the fourth inning only to see Pensacola tie the game at 2-2 in the fifth inning. Chipola reclaimed the lead with 2 runs in the bottom of the fifth but then Pensacola tied the game at 4-4 in the sixth inning. The Indians took a one run lead in the seventh inning and then exploded for five runs in the eighth to post the 12-3 win. Edmond Sparks was 5-5 with 2 RBI, Joey Rapp was 2-4 with 2 RBI and a home run.
They closed out the winning streak with an impressive 17-5 road win over previously unbeaten Tallahassee on Tuesday. JB Johnson was the winning pitcher and the Indians once again had the hot bats with Edmond Sparks going 4-5 with a double, home run and 8 RBI. Dayne Read, Dustin Spruill and Joey Rapp all homered for the Indians.
With the win Chipola improved to 20-11 on the season and will next be in action this weekend when they host Northwest Florida State on Friday at 2 pm and then make a return trip to Panama City on Saturday to square off against Gulf Coast at 1 pm. They will also be on the road on Tuesday March 31 when they travel to Pensacola to take on the Pirates.
