The Chipola Lady Indians swept the Lady Eagles of Tallahassee in a double header on Saturday and in doing so captured the 2010 Panhandle Conference Championship. Clinching the conference championship in the series against Tallahassee was in question as the Lady Eagles held a 3-2 lead going into the bottom of the seventh inning of the second game. But Kellie Todd came up big with a walk off two RBI double to knock in the game winning and conference championship clinching runs, giving Chipola a come from behind 4-3 win.
Game one went to Chipola by a score of 3-0 but through three innings of play it was a scoreless contest. Chipola plated a run in the bottom of the fourth, fifth and sixth innings and Brittany Black pitched a shutout to get the win. Black allowed just one hit on the game, gave up no walks and struck out five batters. Michelle Hewett was 3-4 on the game and Black helped her own cause by going 1-3 with a key RBI.
Game two saw Chipola plate a run in the third inning to take a 1-0 lead. Tallahassee came right back in the fourth inning to tie the game but Chipola reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the inning. The Lady Eagles plated two runs in the top of the seventh and appeared poised to play the role of spoiler. Todd had other ideas however and sent a shot into the left center gap that allowed two Lady Indians to come home and win the game. Todd was 3-4 on the game with three RBI while Hewett was 3-3. Emma Stevenson captured the win for the Lady Indians as she went seven innings and struck out seven batters.
