The Sneads Pirates picked up their fourth win in a row with a thrilling 9-8 district win over the Graceville Tigers last Friday night in Graceville. Jerry Bamburg was the hero of the game as he knocked in the game winning run in the seventh inning and pitched the last four innings to get the win. There was plenty of offense in this matchup as Sneads scored in every inning. But Graceville was coming up with plenty of run production as well and led 8-5 after four innings. But Sneads plated a run in the fifth and two more in the sixth to tie the game. Bamburg then came up with the big hit to score Aaron Green and give the Pirates a one run lead in the top of the seventh inning. Jon Beauchamp had a big two RBI hit in the sixth to tie the game and Graceville’s Devin Cassidy stroked a two run homer in the first inning.
The Marianna Bulldogs found the going rough in their district outing last Friday night as they fell 3-0 to rival Chipley. The Bulldogs had soundly defeated Chipley in their first matchup three weeks ago in Chipley. But they didn’t have to face Chipley’s ace pitcher that night and got out of Chipley in five innings after the 10 run rule was invoked. This time things were much different as Chipley came to Marianna and sent their ace Karsten Whitson to the mound. Whitson, with his 95 mile an hour heat, fanned 14 Bulldogs in the shut out. Marianna got a solid pitching performance from sophomore Michael Mader who held Chipley scoreless through five innings of work. He gave way to Alex Bigale in the sixth inning and the Tigers managed to plate three runs in the seventh inning to capture the win.
