Chipola Softball Sits In First Place

The Chipola Lady Indians softball squad traveled to Tallahassee on Tuesday for a double header against the Lady Eagles and came away with a clean sweep of the Lady Eagles. With those two wins Chipola improved to 5-1 in conference play, good enough to put them in first place of the conference

In game one Chipola shut down Tallahassee with a 4-0 win. Brittany Black was the winning pitcher as she went the distance, allowing no runs on four hits and striking out three Lady Eagles. Black improved her record to 11-4 on the year. Offensively the Lady Indians picked up four runs on four hits and committed one error. Game two went the way of Chipola by a score of 7-4. The Lady Indians jumped out to a 5-0 lead but then saw the Lady Eagles chip away at that lead, making it a 5-2 game. Chipola went up 7-2 before Tallahassee plated two late runs. With the bases loaded Lady Indian pitcher Emma Stevenson got a ground out to second base to end the game. Stevenson picked up the win by allowing four runs on five hits. In doing so Stevenson improved to 16-3 on the season.

The contest against Tallahassee followed a split with the Lady Pirates of Pensacola last Saturday. Game one went to the Lady Pirates by a score of 2-0 as the Lady Indians committed four errors and managed just three hits. The Lady Indians bounced back with a 3-1 win in game two. Chipola jumped out to a 2-0 lead and then plated another run in the sixth inning to seal the win. Emma Stevenson was the winning pitcher as she allowed one run on five hits and struck out eight Lady Pirates. Nikki Roddy was 1-3 with a run scored and one RBI. Michelle Hewett was 2-3 on the day and Hannah Lovestrand was 1-3 with one RBI. Next up for the Lady Indians, who improved to 33-10 overall, will be another road contest as they travel to Niceville on Tuesday for a match up against the Lady Raiders of Northwest Florida State College.
