Lady Indians Pick Up Five More Wins

The Chipola Lady Indians Softball squad picked up five more wins over the past week. That’s the good news. They also found some of the going rough down in Panama City as they dropped two contests down by the bay.

Last Thursday Chipola posted two wins at home as they beat Lake Land College 8-1 in game one and 1-0 in game two. Chipola took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning of game one and then added six more runs in the fifth inning. Michelle Hewett and Dana Cauthen both went 2-4 on the game while Andrea Sullivan was 1-2 but had 3 RBI. Emma Stevenson was the winning pitcher as she went all seven innings and struck out four batters. In game two things were much closer as neither team could plate any runs through the first three innings. Finally in the bottom of the third Chipola got a run across the plate when Nikki Roddy scored what turned out to be the winning run. Roddy also went 2-3 on the day to lead the Lady Indians at the plate. Skylar Davis was the winning pitcher, going all seven innings in the shutout and striking out six batters.

On Friday the Lady Indians traveled to Panama City for five games in two days. They posted wins over Southeastern Community College and Chattanooga State but fell to St. Pete. On Saturday they bounced back with a 13-6 win over Hillsborough but then fell 3-2 to Wallace Hanceville. With the five wins they improved to 22- 6 on the season and will be back in action Saturday when they host Darton for a double header beginning at 4 pm.
