Bulldog Cross Country Competes In Districts

By Clint Cox

There is an old sports adage that says it’s a game of inches. In cross country the adage might be more appropriate to say it’s a game of seconds. The Marianna Bulldog Cross Country team traveled to Tallahassee last Saturday for their district meet and narrowly missed out on advancing to the Regional Finals.

However, in the individual category the Lady Bulldogs Cross Country squad will send one runner on to the Regional Finals. Lindsey Toole ran a race of 22:16 which was good enough to place her 15th out of 70 runners. The top 15 individual runners advance to the Regionals. Other Lady Bulldogs that competed included Tiffany Stephens (27:44), Amber Roedel (32:21) and Audra Peacock (33:00).

In the boy’s action the Bulldogs needed to finish as a team in 6th place or better to advance to the Regionals. While several of the runners put in a personal best, the team placed 7th out of the 14 squads that participated. Joseph Gibson was the lead ‘Dog as he ran a time of 18:46. Close behind Gibson and coming in under 19 minutes were Jesse McGowan (18:49) and Zack Brockner (18:58). Patrick Cox finished 4th for the Bulldogs at 19:39, Angel Morales was 5th at 19:43, Jimmy Lien was 6th at 19:53 and Paul Kelson was 7th at 21:42.

Coach Allan Gibson commended his squad for a race well run and also wanted to thank Ice River Springs Bottling Company for supporting the team this season through the donation of water for the runners.
