By Clint Cox

The Chipola Men’s basketball squad put on their traveling shoes this past week as they played four road games in four days. On Thursday night they took on Bevill State in Jasper Alabama and came away with an 87-78 win. Sophomore Dexter Ellington led the way with 29 points while freshman Lashay Page added 22 points. Then they traveled to Decatur, Georgia to take part in the Georgia Perimeter Classic. On Friday they picked up an 87-67 win over Atlanta Metro.

Saturday’s contest was against Georgia Perimeter and Chipola won 79-66. The Indians led by 5 at the half and were up by 21 points with 3 ½ minutes to play. Fitzgerald served up a double double as he hit 14 points and snagged 11 rebounds. Ellington had 13 points and Kevin Powell and Lashary Page each hit 11 points. Aaron Davis was the fifth Indian in double figures as he chipped in 10 points, all in the second half.

On Sunday the Indians posted a 84-77 overtime win against Northwest Shoals. Their fourth game in four days showed as the Indians fell behind by 8 points in the first half. But they bounced back in the second half and took an 8 point lead. Northwest Shoals fought back as well and tied the game up at the end of regulation. In overtime Chipola caught their second wind and went up quickly to seal the win. Ellington led the way with 27 points while Fitzgerald had a big night with 16 points and 20 rebounds.

The men are now 5-0 on the season and will next play in the Northwest Florida State College Thanksgiving Classic in Niceville. On Friday 11/27 they’ll play against Mississippi Elite and on Saturday 11/28 they take on Howard.
