The Chipola Lady Indians softball squad kept up their hot pace by picking up two more wins this past Saturday over Darton College. Game one was a tight contest with Chipola edging Darton 3-2. Brittany Black got the win in the pitcher’s circle in game one, going 6 1/3 innings and giving up two earned runs on 9 hits. She allowed no walks and struck out six Lady Cavaliers. Offensively the Lady Indians were led by Hannah Lovestrand as she went 2-2 with one run scored and one RBI. Lovestrand helped Chipola take a 3-0 lead in the third inning and then saw Darton narrow the margin with a run in the sixth and a run in the seventh innings.
Game two was a lopsided affair with Chipola winning big in an 11-2 trashing of the visitors in five innings. The Lady Indians got their bats going as Nikki Roddy led the way going 3-3 with 3 runs scored and 3 RBI. Black was 2-3 with 2 runs scored and Kellie Todd was 2-3 with 3 RBI. Michelle Hewett was 3-4 with 2 runs scored. Chipola took an early 1-0 lead but saw Darton take a 2-1 lead in the top of the 3rd inning. Chipola responded with five runs in bottom of the third and five more runs in the bottom of the 4th innings to take care of business. Emma Stevenson got the win for Chipola as she went the distance and gave up 7 hits, allowed 2 runs and struck out 4 batters.
With those two wins the Lady Indians improved to 24-6 on the season and were scheduled to be in action on Wednesday (3/10) against Heartland. Results of that double header were not available at press time. On Monday they will be on the road at Middle Georgia and then return home to open up Panhandle Conference play against Gulf Coast on Wednesday (3/17). Game one against the Lady Commodores will be at 4 pm with game two to follow at 6 pm. The Indians follow that series up with a three game series against Tallahassee with game one in Marianna on Saturday at 1 pm.
