The Florida Watermelon Association announced recently that Shelley Allen of Marianna, Florida has been selected as a contestant for Florida Watermelon Queen. She is the 21 year old daughter of Tracy Allen and Marie Richards. She will join an elite group of young ladies from 18 to 23 years old from throughout Florida to compete for the state title. The competition will be held from March 26 to March 28 during the 42nd Annual Florida Watermelon Convention in St. Augustine, Florida at the Renaissance Resort at the World Golf Village.
The Florida Watermelon Queen travels throughout Florida and the United States, promoting the watermelon industry and making guest appearances. She gives tips on the selection, in addition to discussing the nutritional and economic values of watermelon.
