The Chipola Lady Indians softball squad completed their non-conference schedule this past week as they prepared to open up play in the Panhandle Conference on Wednesday at home against Gulf Coast. The ladies entered conference play with a record of 28-9 and ranked #3 in the state of Florida.
In the last four games the Lady Indians went 2-2 as they picked up an 11-1 win over Middle Georgia on Monday. Emma Stevenson was the winning pitcher. This past weekend they traveled to Jacksonville and notched an 11-1 win over St. Pete on Friday night. The Indians started the 1st inning off with 2 runs on 2 hits. In the bottom of the inning St Pete would score their only run off of Chipola’s 2 errors. In the second inning Brittany Black would start the scoring with a homerun to right center. The Indians would end up scoring three runs on four hits. After not scoring in the 3rd inning, the Indians scored 3 runs in the 4th. In the 5th inning the Lady Indians would score 3 more runs to extend their lead to 10. After getting three outs in the bottom of the 5th inning, the Indians would win the game by mercy rule. Brittany Black would get the win, throwing all 5 innings, allowing 1 run on 3 hits and 4 strikeouts. On Saturday the ladies found the going rough as they fell 4-3 to Seminole State (Oklahoma) and then lost 2-1 to Florida State College of Jacksonville.
