The Malone Tigers baseball squad jumped on the visiting Rattlers from FAMU High Tuesday night and went on to post a 16-1 district win. Jeffery Pittman had a big night as he posted two triples and three RBI as well as picking up the win on the mound.
FAMU got an early 1-0 lead but Malone responded with nine runs in the bottom of the first inning. Blake Hensen scored the first run for the Tigers when he came home on a throwing error. Pittman stroked his first triple to score another run for Malone. Preston Matthews came into run for Pittman and scored on a wild pitch. That put Malone up 3-1. Derek Orshall drew a walk and later came home on a throwing error. Austin Lockart came up with a 2 RBI single to score Will Dunaway and Sean Henry. That put the Tigers up 6-1 but they were not done. Travlean Wood scored on a Nick Breeden RBI single and then Pittman hit another triple that scored Hensen and Breeden. Malone took a 9-1 lead and then held FAMU scoreless in the top of the second inning.
Malone picked up another run in the bottom of the second when Henry scored on a throwing error to make it 10-1. In the bottom of the third inning Breeden came home to score on a RBI single by Orshall. After Malone loaded the bases Lockart ripped a triple down the line to score three Tigers and make it a 14-1 game. Lockart then came home on a wild pitch to give Malone a 14 run lead. The final run for Malone came in the bottom of the fourth inning when an Orshall double scored Pittman to make it 16-1.
Malone improved to 2-2 on the season and will play host to Graceville on Thursday night at 6 pm.
