The Marianna Middle School Bullpups have certainly been on a roll the last few years. And the 2009 season will go down in history as the one that may have topped all the others. The Bullpups used a fourth quarter rally to pull away from Jefferson County in the Big Bend Conference Championship Game for a 30-6 win. In doing so the Bullpups finished the season 8-0, the first 8-0 season in school history.
Jock Wooden was the man of the night as he rushed for 239 yards and three touchdowns. His first score came early in the game as he bolted 35 yards for the touchdown. Shaundre McAroy scored the two point play to give the Bullpups an 8-0 lead. Jefferson County countered with a score in the first half after scooping up a Bullpup fumble and returning it 73 yards for the touchdown. A missed extra point attempt however left the Bullpups with an 8-6 half time lead. A scoreless third quarter followed so the Bullpups entered the fourth quarter with a two point lead, by far their closest contest of the season.
Early in the fourth quarter however Wooden took control, scoring first on a 5 yard run to make it 14-6. He followed that up with a 26 yard scoring run. Jonathan Sikes hit Kyle Tanner on a two point pass play to make it a 22-6 game. Derrick Knowles added the final Bullpup TD of the night with a 19 yard run. Knowles then hit McAroy for the two point play to make the final 30-6.
