Lady Indians On The Road

By Clint Cox

The Chipola Lady Indians hoopsters have packed their bags and been on the road for the last few days. But the traveling has not been the biggest obstacle to overcome but rather the injuries that continue to mount for Chipola. On Friday night they took on Vincennes and came away with a close 59-56 win. Lindsey Carr led the way with 18 points and Ty O’Neal chipped in 17 points. Chipola led several by double digits several times throughout the game but each time Vincennes would battle back. The Lady Indians were up by 8 points at the half and led by 13 in the second half. But Vincennes took a 3 point lead in the second half before the Lady Indians could rally for the win.

On Saturday Chipola took the floor against Georgia Perimeter and fell 71-65. Kendra Powell hit 13 points and Graceville’s Kayla Walker added 9 points. But the loss was costly for the Lady Indians as another player went down with injuries. Guard Tawatha Tucker is out for at least several weeks with a knee injury suffered in the game. An already thin squad got even thinner with the loss of Tucker.

On Monday the Lady Indians had traveled to the Tampa area and squared off against St. Petersburg. Chipola fell behind 16-0 to start the game but battled back to take a lead. In the second half they were up by as many as 7 points but could not hang onto the lead as St. Petersburg heated up from the outside. St. Pete then took the lead and held on for a 70-63 victory. Chipola followed that game up with a Tuesday night contest against Hillsborough. Chipola trailed 37-32 at the half and Hillsborough went on to win 70-61. O’Neal led the Lady Indians with 11 points and Walker added 9.

The Lady Indians will be back in action on Tuesday 12/1/09 when they play host to Florida State College Jacksonville at the Milton H. Johnson Health Center. Chipola will enter that contest with a record of 4-5.
