The Sneads Lady Pirates avenged a district championship loss to Blountstown with a 3-1 win on Tuesday night over the Lady Tigers in the Class 2A FHSAA Regional One Semi-Finals. With the win over Blountstown Sneads will now advance to the Region One Finals on Saturday in Tallahassee. They will take on Maclay in a rematch of last year’s Class 2A Region One Finals.
On Tuesday the Blountstown Gym was standing room only as both squads had large and loud crowds cheering them on. The first set was a nail biter as neither squad could pull ahead by more than two points. The set was tied 15 different times but the Lady Pirates finally pulled out a 27-25 win. But Blountstown came right back to take an early lead in the second set. Sneads battled back to tie the game at 9-9 but the Lady Tigers pulled away again and went on to win 25-21. Blountstown took another lead in the third set but this time Sneads fought back to not only tie the set a 9-9 but then went on to post a 25-20 win. The fourth and final set was nip and tuck in the early going. The set was tied at 12-12 when Sneads got on a roll and reeled off six unanswered points. Blountstown hung close though fighting to a 19-15 Sneads lead. The Lady Pirates got key kills down the stretch from Meagan Smith, Ashley Smith and Kara Alford to close out the set with a 25-20 win.
After going unbeaten in the district during the regular season Sneads had fallen to Blountstown in the district championship game on October 29th. Sneads had to swallow a bitter pill and advanced to the playoffs as the district runner up. On Wednesday 11/4/09 they traveled to Baker to take on the Lady Gators in Regional Quarterfinal action. The home squad captured a win in the first set by a score of 25-21. But the Lady Pirates rallied to win the next three sets by scores of 25-9, 25-22 and 25-23. The 3-1 win over Baker set up the rematch with the Lady Tigers in Blountstown.
