The Cottondale Hornets and Graceville Tigers both saw a long season come to a close this past Friday night. The Cottondale Hornets played host to the Liberty County Bulldogs and had the Bulldogs on the ropes, leading 18-14 at the end of the third quarter. But the Hornets could not hang on as Liberty County rallied for two fourth quarter touchdowns to win 28-14. The Hornets finish the 2009 season with a record of 1-8.
The Graceville Tigers had to travel for their last game of the season but they didn’t have to travel far. Graceville took on their arch rival Chipley in Washington County and grabbed an early lead. Graceville had a 7-6 lead after a Jacky Miles touchdown and extra point. Miles scored his second TD of the night to give Graceville a lead of 14-6. Chipley countered with a score but missed the extra point and trailed 14-12. Another score by Chipley gave them a 18-14 halftime lead. Chipley expanded that lead as the second half began to 25-14 and then scored again to take a 33-14 lead. Graceville’s final score of the night came on a Garrett Steverson to Chris Works pass. With the loss Graceville finished the season with a record of 3-7.
