Chipola Ladies Win Two In Classic

The Chipola Lady Indians picked up two wins this past weekend while hosting the 4th Annual Alzheimer’s Classic at the
Milton H. Johnson Health Center. On Friday the Lady Indians posted a 62-56 win over Monroe. Saturday’s contest was one that the Lady Indians would just as soon forget as they fell 90-59. Chipola shot just 27% from the field and were just 5-16 from behind the three point line. Ty O’Neal led the way with 19 points and Malesha Petterson added 14.

On Sunday the Lady Indians got back on the winning track with a 72-67 win over Trinity Valley. Chipola led 34-29 at the half as they shot 60% from the field and hit 2-3 shots from outside the 3 point line. They pushed their lead to as many as 8 points in the second half but each time Trinity would battle back to within four points. Down the stretch the Lady Indians hit key free throws to hold off Trinity for a 5 point win. O’Neal hit key free throws along with Darrlita Taylor, who hit two free throws with :29 seconds to give Chipola a 72-65 lead.

O’Neal paced the Lady Indians with 23 points and 5 assists. Two other ladies were in double figures as Kendra Powell added 14 points and Tawatha Tucker chipped in 11 points. Powell led the squad in rebounds with 12 while O’Neal grabbed 7 rebounds. The Lady Indians improved to 3-2 on the season and will be on the road for the next four games as this weekend they’ll be in Panama City. On Friday they take on Vincennes at 5 pm and on Saturday they’ll play Georgia Perimeter at 1 pm. Both games will be played at Gulf Coast. After this weekend Chipola hits the road again for a Monday game against St. Petersburg and a Tuesday matchup against Hillsborough.
