Area runners, joggers and walkers gathered this past Sunday afternoon to help out the earthquake victims in Haiti. Participants made donations to be a part of a 5K run and/or a 1 mile fun walk/run. Approximately $3,500 was raised by the 117 folks who took part in the event. Numerous community groups participated including: Rivertown Community Church, Department of Transportation, Gentiva, Marianna Fire Department, The Bridge, Marianna Area Running Club (M.A.R.C.), Stryder’s Running Club, the Running Moms Club. The top three groups of participants were recognized in the post run ceremonies and they were (3) Peoples Funeral Home (2) Evangel Worship Center and (1) Marianna MEGA All Star Cheerleaders.
Several others were recognized including the youngest participant who was Jack Eaton at 2 years and 2 months). The oldest participant was longtime area runner Crushall Swilley, who’s age was not announced. The 5K top male runner was Cedric Gillette with a time of 19:41 and Kristina Bokenfohr was the top female finisher with a time of 22:18.
