The Chipola Mens and Womens basketball squads picked up much needed victories this past Saturday night over the visiting squads from Pensacola Junior College. The Lady Indians notched a 71-64 win over the Lady Pirates for their first conference win of the season. Bianca Jarrett led the way with 24 points and 6 rebounds. Lindsey Carr added 19 points and Ance Celmina scored 12 points and grabbed 9 rebounds. The Lady Indians improved to 1-5 in conference play and 11- 11 overall.
The men downed the Pirates 82-67 as Sam Grooms knocked down 20 points with 6 rebounds. Keith Dewitt had a double double with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Kevin Powell followed with 12 points and 7 rebounds and Marvin Fitzgerald rounded out the fourth player in double figures with 12 points and 8 rebounds. The Indians improved to 2-4 in conference play and 17-5 overall.
Both squads were in action on Wednesday as they traveled to Niceville to take on Northwest Florida State College. Results of those games were not available at press time. Next up for the Indians is a home matchup with Tallahassee this Saturday night.
