Two of Jackson County’s three high school boys basketball teams were eliminated from the FHSAA playoffs in their respective Regional Quarter-Finals last Thursday. In Class 1A the Malone Tigers battled hard but fell 61-57 to Paxton. The game was tight from start to finish as it was tied at the end of the first quarter and Paxton held a two point lead at the half. They were tied up again heading into the final quarter and Malone had a chance at the end of the game to take the lead but it was not to be and Paxton closed out the game with key free throws to seal the win. TJ Smith led the way for Malone with 24 points while LaDarius McElroy followed with 9. Malone finished the season with a record of 20-6. Paxton advanced to take on FAMU in the Regional Semi-Finals on Tuesday and came away with a 69-52 win. They will play on Saturday in the Regional Finals when they host Arlington Country Day.
The Graceville Tigers were fresh off winning their district championship but their season came to a close with a first round 69-53 loss to Pensacola Christian. Cameron Dozier led the Tigers with 18 points while Bryon Laster chipped in 13. Graceville finished the season with a record of 19-9. Pensacola Christian took on Baker on Tuesday night in semi-final action and posted a 44-24 win. They will next play on Saturday on the road against Port St. Joe.
