Popular coach travels to Marianna to speak to youth group By Sid Riley
Without a lot of fanfare and publicity, Nationally recognized coach Tommy Bowden volunteered his time and influence to address the “Fellowship of Christian Athletes” at their wild game dinner fund raiser on Saturday, January 30. The event was held at the dining facility at the First Baptist Church in Marianna.
When he was approached about the speaking engagement, Bowden accepted without hesitation, expressing his belief in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes organization and the impact it is having on many young people. Organizers were worried that the speaking fee charged by such a well known individual would exceed the budget for the event. However, when asked “how much” Bowden responded, “There will be no speaking fee, just pay for the gasoline I use and that will suffice”.
His speech was inspirational, and so was the example he set. Another instance of the spirit of caring which endures within our society.
