The county’s two top girls basketball teams, at least record wise, squared off last Thursday night when Marianna played host to Graceville. The Lady Tigers, who have a 20 plus win season already fought hard but fell to the Lady Bulldogs by a score of 43-30. Sharae Williams led the Lady Bulldogs with 16 points while Mychea Williams and Wynnterra Pittman led Graceville with 8 points each.
Marianna took an early 7-4 lead and then Williams gave the Lady Bulldogs a 13-6 lead with a basket . Williams pumped in 11 of the Lady Bulldogs 14 first half points and all 7 of Marianna’s second quarter points. The Lady Bulldogs held a 14-8 halftime lead. In the third quarter Graceville battled back as Pittman help the Lady Tigers pulled to within 2 points. Jessica McClendon of Graceville tied the game up a 17-17 and Pittman kept it tied at 19-19 with four minutes to play in the third quarter. But Marianna countered with an 8-2 run to close out the quarter as Williams and Shamiqua Davies came up with buckets. Marianna led 27-21 going into the final quarter and would lead by as many as 8 points before Graceville cut the lead back to six. But Williams took control down the stretch and Marianna went on to post the 13 point victory.
