Chipola Finishes

- Preseason Schedule -

Defeats A.U.M. and Faulkner

The Chipola Men’s Basketball team completed their preseason schedule this past weekend at home against two very competitive N.A.I.A. squads, Auburn University Montgomery and Faulkner University.

Chipola defeated A.U.M. in the first game 83-82 and returned later in the day to knock-off Faulkner by the final score of 69-65.

It was the first time this season that the Indians have played a full-length basketball game. In the previous scrimmage formats, running clocks were used so each game would only last an hour. However, this weekend’s games were played with traditional game stoppage.

Chipola coach Jake Headrick said, “It was the first time the majority of our players have played in a full college game. Playing two games in a short period of time caused our players to experience fatigue. It allowed our players to understand that we have to sustain our composure and continue to execute properly even as fatigue develops.”

Fatigue was certainly evident as Chipola was limited to only eight players because of injuries and illnesses.

“We have a lot to work on before the season tips, but our players are improving every day,” said coach Headrick.

The Indians will host their third annual Haunted Hoops next Saturday, October 31 at the Milton H. Johnson Health Center beginning at 4:00pm. Children are invited to wear their Halloween costumes and enjoy a special trick-or-treat party. Both the men’s and women’s basketball teams will be on hand for autographs and pictures.
