Pirates Stumble In Freeport

By Clint Cox

The Sneads Pirates traveled to Freeport last Friday and took it on the chin in a 34-17 district loss to the Bulldogs. Freeport jumped out to a quick lead, aided by three Sneads turnovers in the first half, and never looked back as they pulled ahead to lead 27-3 by halftime.

The only bright spot for the Pirates in the first half came on a 41 yard field goal by Josh Rogers. In the second half the Pirates managed to get a little offense going but it was too little too late. Jeff Davis scored on a 25 yard scoring run and Mark Lawson scored on a 12 yard run. Rogers added the point after kick on both touchdowns.

The Pirates were led on the evening by Lawson with 96 rushing yards on 22 carries. Davis added 42 yards of rushing on eight carries. The Pirate defense was led by Jamar White and Davis led the Sneads defense with seven tackles each. With the loss Sneads fell to 2-2 on the year and 2-1 in district play. They’ll be back on the road this week as they play at Jay in another district road game.
